A mystery
meeting in Shopton draws Tom Swift into the dilemma of a family stalked by an
international terrorist. Before Tom can provide any scientific assistance the
matter turns to murder and a campaign of vengeance that the young inventor is
helpless to forestall. Rescue having failed, Tom devotes the resources of Swift
Enterprises to the perfection of his polaritron, employing new technologies to
physically recreate structures long destroyed and claimed by history. Yet
without explanation Tom himself becomes a target of deadly attack in the air,
in a test hangar, in icy Alaska, and across the world as he travels the globe
to put his ingenious invention to practical challenges of many kinds. But an
evil fate follows Tom, with his pal Bud and sister Sandra, to the ends of the
earth, where the gargantuan Devil-Face gazes in witness to the final--and fatal--confrontation
between heroism and stark obsession. The enemies have the advantage with a
fantastic weapon and a shadowy figure named Ramphorynchus, leaving in the
balance the ultimate question: Can the Past--kill the Future?
